“Inspiring Workplace”: How Rounding, Recognition, Learning Networks, and Quality Innovations Foster Agency and Community

Derick A. Welch, MLS(ASCP)cm is a co-lead of the “Inspiring Workplace” initiative and brings his unique expertise to the learning community called “The Curious Minds Club”. He is an education coordinator at Mayo Clinic with over a decade of experience in workforce development and building high-performing, learning-centered teams. As Program Director for the Medical Laboratory Science clinical rotations in Jacksonville, he oversees curriculum design, competency development, and learner experience across one of the nation’s most complex academic laboratory environments. His work has earned recognition across Mayo Clinic, including appointment as a Fellow of the Academy of Educational Excellence, multiple internal grants for educational innovation, and leadership roles in department-wide culture and belonging initiatives. Beyond the lab, Derick is deeply involved in the community as a mentor, youth wrestling coach, and advocate for equitable access to allied health careers.
