Microsoft 365 consultant at Advantive Belgium. I started out as a teacher (the rock star career never quite took off), then landed in administrative jobs where filing and answering the phone were the biggest challenges of the day. But I always found myself looking at how a company really runs, and how different that is from how it works on paper. The gap between the ideal process and everyday practice was often huge. Somewhere along the way, I wanted to close that gap, and consultancy turned out to be the place to do it. I applied at Advantive Belgium in 2012 with an opening line: “I don’t really like SharePoint.” They hired me anyway. Fourteen years, countless intranets and one boomerang later, I’ve loved every step of it. Nothing beats seeing people’s everyday work get easier, simply because the setup finally fits. Along the way I learned that having the tools doesn’t mean people use them. Finding the setup that best fits the way people work is one half of the job. The other half, just as important to me, is adoption, training, change management, and asking the question nobody else wants to ask. And the rock star in me? Still alive and kicking, every time I step in front of an audience, whether it’s a training room or a stage.
